One small step at a time. That’s the biggest and best tip of them all and the premise of B>U, by the way. Remember, January 1st is an arbitrary day we pick to recognize a commitment to positive changes in our lives. Pick the change and take small steps each day to reach that goal.
Be very specific. Saying ‘I want to be more fulfilled or happier or healthier” sounds great in its grand statement but what does it actually mean. Let’s give some examples.
If you want to become healthier, find small and/or simple steps to execute the process. I’m going to use the stairs rather than the elevator each day. I’ll ride my bike to the local store when I just need some small items. I’ll quit adding bacon to my breakfast tacos, etc.
What about happier? Each day when I look in the mirror I will smile. Read why the act of smiling actually triggers being a happier person. Commit to sending an e-mail to a close friend, at least once a week or month. Close and real connections are the most important part of being fulfilled but take committed actions.
Taking those small steps each day then become pattern and no longer are goals but your lifestyle. Now you’re able to push yourself to the next goal thus creating small but actionable steps to becoming a greater human being.
Those are just a few of the many examples on being specific but you tend to forget those steps quickly and easily so the next tip is the best to stay committed.
Create a “B>U Alarm Clock”. On your computer, iPhone or even your alarm clock create a prompt that reminds you of your committed actions to improve your life. It’s an amazing tool having it pop up right in front of you. It’s a constant reminder and shows by that prompt or written statement that you are committed.
I use the phrase of “B>U” each day to remind me of the many things I need to do each day to be a greater human. Every time my iPhone beeps and I look down, I immediately smile and remember what’s real, the steps to be real and make it real.
Be accountable. That’s another component of the “B>U Alarm Clock”. You need reminders that ask you your progress on your committed goals. Make those reminder/prompts every month. Pushing accountability too much i.e. every day will dilute the importance of accountability.
Remember, reminders of accountability are different than reminders of the committed goals. Keep those distinct. It’s important. B>U Alarm Clock Accountability reminders are to see what you’ve done and B>U Alarm Clock Action reminders are to encourage you to do.
The B>U philosophy is to take small steps each day to become a greater human for a greater world. Use this website and the Facebook page to help stay committed to your personal goals of becoming a greater person. Join the evolution.
